Podcast: Can transformations toward desired futures be facilitated, steered or managed? – Melissa Leach

This recording was made at the first annual Transformative Knowledge Workshop, which took place in November 2014 in Potsdam, Germany.

The overarching aim of the workshop was to lay the foundations for the global Transformations Knowledge Trust that is being developed through the ISSC’s Transformations to Sustainability Programme.

Melissa Leach is Melissa Leach is the Director of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) based at the University of Sussex. Between 2006 and 2014 Melissa directed the ESRC STEPS (Social, Technological and Environmental Pathways to Sustainability) Centre.
Over the last thirty years she has been closely involved both in ethnographic fieldwork and in extensive interdisciplinary research. Melissa’s recent work has explored the politics of science and knowledge in policy processes linked to environment and health;
addressing vaccine controversies, scientific uncertainties, citizenship and public engagement; cultural and political dimensions of vaccine delivery; medical research trials, emerging infectious diseases, and ecology-health linkages.
